Our Legacy
The history of Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge is closely intertwined with the contemporary tiger conservation movement in India dating back to the 1960s when Shri Kailash Sankhala raised an alarm about the shocking scale of tiger hunting that was driving this great cat to extinction. Sankhala’s love for the tiger was boundless: he had been parent to an orphan cub ‘Jim’; gone undercover to expose the massive scale of skins which was driving the cat to extinction, and led the country’s first tiger census.
